Audio Recording Club

Came across this nice blog, most of it is metal/screamo (Nostre Monte EP is good) but then a few pages in it had Audio Recording Club which happens to have John Galm, SSC and Snowing vocalist. Sounds like turn of the century emo or maybe Brand New. EP and album thanks to lvoldschool.blogspot.com/.

Boost

"Boost is an up beat emo band from the DC area. They play a music similar to such bands as Algernon Cadwallader, Cap’n Jazz, and Braid. They have two releases, a split tape with DC punk band Fine Lines, and a CD EP which came in a cloth case."

They have everything for download HERE, it comes with both sides of the split.

Lights On Emendy

Going to post them again cause I think they are good (I have downloads this time). "A crappy imitation of an screamo band that broke up.", is kinda true but its not somthing to get too hung up on about. They took down thier Old Grey cover before I could get it :( By the looks of it they have some sort of EP in the works so that should be good. They just put up an Old EP, under a different name but same sound, plus new version of Sleeping, with new backing vocals.

"I guess people actually listen to us? Or atleast they write about us and don't care."

Swedes

"We were a DIY minded screamo band from Lancaster/West Chester, PA. We formed in early 2007 drawing inspiration from bands such as Ampere, Daitro, Raein, Kidcrash, Saetia and Make Me."

If you like any of those bands you should like this. Its screamo with clean twidly guitar parts, i'd say it sounds like Merchant Ships more then the bands listed above. They only did 4 songs and lasted less then a year. The singer went on to be half the main partnership in Ursa Theodorus and is now in Bluegrass Kids, which is more of the same.

We Sang Songs

Kinda a continuation from the last post, this band is amazing and I havent seen any mention of thier name before even though they hang with We Were Skeltons, Piroutte and Algernon. I got what I could find but the S/T EP is missing a few tracks, so if anyone could point me in the direction of them... Its beardy twinkly shouty americana punk pop.

Pucker Up Velcrolips

I think its my inner scene kid speaking but I like this band, even though they have a 'scene' thing going on its still catchy pop songs. Plus they played with Make Me once. Lots of members over the years who went on to play it some other good bands;

Quiltary

I think at one time it was an acoustic project under the name of Cape Terra, they got some more members and turned it into a rock ensamble. The guy has a good John Galm/Street Smart Cyclist voice.

Johnny Foreigner

Good band, they get tagged along with other not-as good bands i.e Los Campesinos & Elle Milano. Worth listening to if you like the sort of music but Johnny Foreigner are head and shoulders above them. JF have 1 album out and a new one at the end of October (Video above is for the first single 'Criminals'), they have self-released some stuff aswell, ill post/link them all but beware there are a few repeats of songs with different recordings.

Waited Up 'til It Was Light - 1st Album
Arcs Across The City - EP for 1st Album
Feels Like Summer - EP for 2nd Album

We Left You Sleeping And Gone Now - Rare album (2005ish) of lo-fi recordings. Definitely worth getting, its almost acoustic, its very good.

Everday Is A Constant Battle - Collection of demos, released via their myspace a while ago.

Make Me: Unreleased Songs

Finally found the Make Me songs I didnt have. 3 tracks that arn't on the demo or the split so I guess they are 'unreleased'. 2 full songs and one short instrumental. While im at it might aswell put up the old stuff aswell, just incase anyone missed it first time round.

Demo & Split

Orderd the 'boys and sex' demo too, but as it's being sent from the US to UK it'll be a week or two before I can post it up, then you guys can go buy your own copy.

Merchant Ships: Old Songs

Merchant Ships put my blog in thier blog and I had no idea, still sad they aren't together but Midwest Pen Pals is rad and they can only get better.

"I miss your hand inside of mine, I miss the times we'd use to cry when mom was drunk and yours just sucked and everything was so sixteen. And although I still see you around, it’s just not the same."

Anyway ive had these two Merchant Ships songs for a while now, I think they are from thier 'LOLcats' demo but im not sure, I think there is a different version of 'Long Term Relationships..." on it too but still not sure.

Cutting Pink With Knives

One of the best things from the UK, never heard anything like it before or since. Its like Rolo Tomassi, Trencher, Genghis Tron, Locust... all combined spanning 3 albums. The first two albums are like the bands I just listed (Oh Wow! is a nice transition and has some of thier best stuff, 'I Heart Structuralists' & 'Didi Got Fisted At The Smiths Disco'). My personal favourite album is the 3rd, Populuxxe, its all the best parts, like so:

90s 'emo'

As bad as saying 'indie' & 'math' but somtimes you just gotta.

This is all 90s stuff:

I Hate Myself: 'Less Than Nothing' & 'Kind of a Long Way Down' are in my favourite songs fo lyfe with 'Roy on the Make' just behind'. Plus maybe 'Caught in a flood...' I cant pick.

Mineral: 'Power of Failing' album is one of the best things, the last two songs are fantastic. You also need to listen to February,

Promise Ring: Only have 1 album and havent followed thier so-called downfall and hairloss but it was the album that stopped me being part of the Kinsella circle-jerk. Always need a daily dose of 'Forget Me'

Penfold: If you like the everything else, this is exactly what your are looking for. Get 'Amateurs and Professionals' album. Or if still in doubt listen to 'Microchip' which is on some wierd compilation.

Texas Is the Reason: Getting to the more indie side, they have a split with The Promise Ring which si proberly a good starting poitn for both bands.

Sunny Day Real Estate: Im always unsure if I do liek this band or not, 'Diary' is the only album I listened to after a while.

Roadside Monument: a bit hit and miss but still underated.

Christie Front Drive: I really like the Boys Life split, I think thats the best place to start.

The Kossabone Red: Took Cap'n Jazz sound and made it so much better, defiantly worth a listen though stuff can be hard to find.

Spy Versus Spy: Doing what people do now but 10 years ago, english too. Don't confuse with 'Spy vs. Spy'.

Baby Harp Seal: Another English band, rad.

Candy Land Carcrash: Real good, lots of cool live videos about.

Add more soon i guess
